THE Department of Health has announced a further 616 positive cases for Coronavirus in the North of Ireland in the last 24 hours.
That is a rise of 154 on figures it reported yesterday for Saturday.
However, there have been no further deaths which puts the department’s total number of deaths, which are mostly in hospitals, at 584.
A total of 14,690 people have now tested positive in the North of Ireland to COVID-19 since the pandemic erupted here in March this year.
The Department say 64 people are in hospital with the deadly virus with 12 patients in intensive care units.
In the Derry City and Strabane District Council area, a total of 1,655 people have tested positive for Coronavirus in the past seven months.
Over the last week, 804 people within the council boundary have contracted the virus.
In the past 24 hours, a further 73 people in Derry and Strabane have returned a positive test, with four people returning indeterminate results.
The positive test rate in the council area is now 1,009.8 per 100,000 of population, according to the new figures.
The council’s death rate remains at 29 since March.
A total of 29 care homes are dealing with outbreaks of the virus with 210 closed outbreaks of COVID-19 in care homes.
