Speaking after questioning the Transport Minister, Senator McCallion said: “Transport Minister Eamon Ryan has today confirmed that the Irish government does not intend to include City of Derry Airport in its Regional Airports plan.
“This is extremely disappointing given that support for the Airport is a commitment under the New Decade, New Approach document launched by the two governments.
“This is a vital method of transport for many people from both Derry and Donegal.
“The the Irish government have a role to play in ensuring its sustainability.
“I have urged the Minister for Transport to work with his officials and City of Derry Airport to look at ways that they can contribute towards maintaining and keeping the airport open.”
