A MURAL is being created in Derry as a tribute to Richard Moore, who was blinded when he was struck by a rubber bullet as a ten-year-old child in 1972.
The mural at Great James Street recreates an embrace between Richard, who founded the Children in Crossfire charity, and the Dalai Lama during an event in Derry in 2013.
The two men have become great friends through their work in helping people throughout the world.
Children in Crossfire supports thousands of people living in impoverished areas of the world which have been impacted by conflict.
Mr Moore is a victim of the Troubles having been blinded when he was a young boy after he was hit by a plastic bullet fired by a British soldier in Derry.
The Derry man later met the former soldier man who shot him and they too have created a unique friendship.
The mural in Mr Moore’s has been created by UV Arts who are also behind the Derry Girls artwork at the side of Badgers pub in the city.
Last Friday was reunited with Absolutely Fabulous actress Joanna Lumley when she paid a visit to the city,
The pair first met three years ago in London and have remained good friends ever since.
Ms Lumley was first spotted on Friday on a walkabout in Derry city centre, talking to shoppers.
And later she met again with Mr Moore for a catch up in Creggan.
Richard tweeted: “Honoured to be showing my good friend Joanna around God’s country Malin Gardens Creggan where I grew up #Derry.”
