SINN Féin’s Martina Anderson has said it’s time to transform rail in Derry and the north west.
Speaking in the Assembly, the Foyle MLA said: “It’s time to transform our rail network and better connect Derry and the north west to the rest of our island.
“Improving rail would mean a major boost for workers, families and commuters who use rail on a daily basis, including quicker journey times, better lines and more frequent journeys.
“We currently do not have a rail service, or enough railway stations, to meet the clear and growing demand.
“The announcement of a feasibility study for high speed rail from Derry to Cork is welcome but we need such a study turn into railway development in the north west.
“The Department for Infrastructure must improve rail, reducing journey times and developing a greener, fit for purpose transport network in the north west as a strategic priority.”
