The Foyle MLA said: “After raising the need for clarity surrounding counselling under current restrictions, the Department of Health have confirmed that individual and group counselling can continue providing risk assessments have been completed and protection measures are in place.
“The impact of this crisis on people’s mental health is unquantifiable.
“And following lockdown in March, the restricted access to face-to-face counselling dealt a further blow to some of our most vulnerable individuals.
“This is a crucial support for so many people, even more so during this difficult period.
“I am pleased the essential nature of counselling has been recognised by the Department and that services can continue to with their vitally important work.”
