THE SDLP’s Mark H Durkan has welcomed confirmation from the Department for Infrastructure that dropped kerbs will be implemented within the Foylesprings area of the city.
Progress had been hampered by the outbreak of Covid-19 but it is hoped these works can be carried out as soon as possible.
The Foyle MLA said: “In May of this year, I appealed for dropped kerbs in and around the Foylesprings estate.
“Having visited families in the area, it was clear there were impediments for anyone with mobility related disabilities or parents with pushchairs.
“In some parts the kerbs were particularly high, posing real difficulty for those walking and exercising in the area.
“I am pleased the Road Service has now agreed to the provision of dropped kerbs at Tarnreagh Park/Foylesprings Rd Junction, Foylesprings Rd/Belvedere Park Junction and Foylesprings Rd/Belfield Park Junction which will provide an accessible link out to the main Springtown Road.
“These works have been impeded as a result of the pandemic but the Department have assured me they will be completed as quickly as possible.
“It is vitally important that accessibility is not an issue but particularly so in residential areas.
“People should have assurances that where they live and the pathways they traverse on a daily basis are usable for all.”
