Councillor Logue: “For a number of the years now we have been continually pushing a road safety campaign across the Brandywell, Bogside and Bishop Street areas.
“Over the past few weeks, I have been contacted by a number of regular users of the zebra crossing under the Lecky Road Flyover to say it was in a shabby state and needed attention .
“I took a look at this myself and much of black and white on the poles are badly worn away and the yellow beacon lights looked to have suffered the effects of the weather.
“This is a very busy crossing as it is used by people going to and from the Long Tower Chapel, Gasyard Centre ,local schools and shops.
“I am told the crossing at the bottom of Westland Street is going a similar way and also needs attention.
“It’s important that Transport NI carry out an inspection of all these crossings in the area and see if they are up to standard.
“I feel the best way forward would be to have them completely modernised as a matter of urgency.
“With the dark mornings and nights now on us I would appeal for motorists to show due care and attention at all crossings in the area.”
