THE SDLP’s Mark H Durkan has welcomed the commencement of work in Drumahoe District Park as part of Derry City and Strabane District Council’s Village Renewal Projects.
Mr Durkan had previously raised the need for increased accessibility in the park, measures which will now be implemented as part of this project.
Said the Foyle MLA: “Pleased that construction works are underway at Drumahoe District Park.
“This is a great space for everyone in the area, whether it’s taking the dog a walk, allowing the kids to let off steam for a bit in the fresh air or for individual exercising.
“The area provides an opportunity to improve physical and mental health, so it is vitally important that everyone regardless of age or ability can access the park without impediment.
“I raised with Council, the need for a path which will now be implemented as part of these works, making this great facility more accessible for those with mobility issues, prams and kids with bikes.
“The park will remain open during this time with adult trim trails equipment, tree planting and new signage also being put in place.
“This is a fantastic amenity within the local community and by incorporating accessibility measures we can assure that it is available for everyone to use.”
