The Foyle MLA was commenting after securing confirmation from the Minister for Communities that a business case for the work is now being evaluated.
Martina Anderson said: “The minister Carál Ní Chuilín has confirmed that the business case is now being considered for an improvement scheme in the Clooney Terrace, Dungiven Road and Duddy’s Court areas.
“The minister expects to send the business case to the Finance department for final approval in the very near future, representing a major step forward for an improvement scheme in an area that has been neglected for many years.
“The minister has taken a personal interest in resolving the need for this scheme.
“Along with myself and local Sinn Féin Councillor Christopher Jackson she came to see the situation for herself and to meet with local families who have been waiting on these improvements for much too long.
“I very much thank her for the interest she has shown and the progress she has now delivered.
“Hopefully this is the beginning of the end of the long wait for these families.”
