THE SDLP’s Mark H Durkan says he has long championed the need for investment in the West and particularly the local rail infrastructure.
Welcoming SDLP Minister Nichola Mallon’s announcement confirming a feasibility study to enhance rail services, the Foyle MLA said it was a clear signal of support for the North West.
Mr Durkan said: “SDLP Minister Nichola Mallon has listened to the calls of the people of Derry and the wider North West and has announced today confirmed a feasibility study to consider the introduction of half hourly train services on the Derry – Belfast railway line.
“The study will also examine the viability of establishing additional halts along with Park & Ride facilities at Strathfoyle, Eglinton/City of Derry Airport and Ballykelly.
“This in conjunction with the increased frequency would be completely transformative for the North West.
“This marks a key step in improving connectivity, bringing with it a multitude of economic and environmental benefits.
“Minister Mallon has set us back on track.
“This clear signal from the Minister to support the people of this area, connecting our communities and ultimately leading to growth – is to be welcomed by all across our city and beyond.”
