Residents back home as alert declared a hoax

A number of people who had to leave their homes in Limavady due to a security alert have been allowed to return.

The alert began following the discovery of a suspicious object in the Mount Eden area at teatime on Thursday.

It was examined by Army bomb experts and declared an “elaborate hoax”, the PSNI said.

Police are carrying out inquiries to find out who was behind the hoax.
