Middleton welcomes progress on Project Stratum

Foyle DUP MLA Gary Middleton has welcomed the awarding of the contract for the broadband improvement project, Project Stratum.

He said: “Many rural areas across Northern Ireland continue to have limited broadband access, including areas within the Foyle constituency.

“This is having an impact not only on residential households but also on rural businesses.

“There is a clear need for everyone to have access to adequate broadband speeds. Good broadband should not be a luxury that only some parts of Northern Ireland have access to.

“Through the DUP Confidence and Supply money, £150 million is being invested to ensure broadband services are improved in the approximately 76,000 premises Project Stratum aims to target.

“Over 3500 premises within the Londonderry and Strabane areas will be targeted in the scheme.

“I look forward to seeing the rollout of the scheme.

“The benefits of full fibre broadband are more relevant now in a COVID-19 context than ever before.”
