DERRY City FC has announced that the club has decided to end all Academy activity until the new year.
And the Brandywell club say it will not be competing in the last two games in this season’s National League competitions.
The club say in a statement: “The League suspended all matches in mid-October due to the Covid pandemic and Derry City followed all protocols as directed by government and health authorities.
“Since then, the city and indeed the Football Club has been badly affected by the virus.
“Our entire first team squad spent two consecutive 14-day periods in isolation in the past five weeks following Covid outbreaks.
“Given this, the club were not prepared to risk that spreading to other areas of the club.
“The health and safety of our players, parents, coaches and support staff has been, and will continue to be, our absolute priority.
“Re-starting games in the coming weeks would mean not just large groups of players training or playing together, but also considerable travel to and from other grounds.
“The club have consulted with the FAI on this matter and while it is not a decision that was taken lightly,
it is absolutely the right decision at this time.
“Our Academy staff and players are now looking forward to getting back to pre-season training in January.”
