The minister was responding to a series of written questions submitted by McLaughlin.
Said the Foyle MLA: “I remain extremely concerned about the Mobuoy waste dump and the recognised threat to water quality and River Faughan wildlife.
“It is essential that faster progress is made to remediate the site.
“I regret that the minister has rejected an Assembly resolution passed in 2014 calling for a public inquiry into the circumstances related to Mobuoy.
“I will monitor future activity regarding Mobuoy closely.
“It is essential that consultants and other contractors engaged to determine the future of Mobuoy have appropriate and proven expertise, as well as the financial standing to undertake the work at the level of excellence required.
“I hope that Mobuoy can one day be used for recreational and leisure purposes.”
Derry City and Strabane District Council was told last year that it will cost £50 million to clean up Derry’s ‘Blot on the Landscape’.
