A man in his 30s was shot in the leg in the Southway area of the city around 7.30 pm on Wednesday.
SDLP leader and Foyle MP Colum Eastwood said: “Last night’s shooting and disturbances in Creggan are senseless acts designed to intimidate, threaten and terrorize our community.”
“The people of Creggan and Derry do not want this mindless violence.
“Actions like these do not belong in Derry in 2021.
“My thoughts are with the man who has been shot and I wish him a speedy recovery. ”
DUP Foyle MLA Garry Middleton said the shooting was “disgraceful.”
“There is no place for this violence in our society,” he tweeted.
