Said the Foyle MP: “The Environment Bill is a crucial piece of legislation to ensure protection of our environment and resources.
“It is unacceptable that it has once again been put on the long finger by the Prime Minister. It is a dereliction of duty to our future and to those who will have to live with the consequences as a result of the Bill’s delay.
“Delay in these areas could see a sharp decline in environmental standards both in Britain and here in Northern Ireland.
“Unless urgent action is taken, irreversible damage to our environment and biodiversity is a certainty.
“Boris Johnson has once shown disregard to MPs from outside his own party.
“His continued delays will impact on the future generations ability to tackle this crisis.
“The Prime Minister needs to wake up to reality of the challenge in front of him.
“Boris Johnson’s government is demonstrating that they are willing to delay on crucial environment legislation which is needed to arrest climate change.
“The bill must be brought before the house as soon as possible.”
