Mr Eastwood has repeated his call to all political leaders to set aside bitter animosity and work together in the substantial common interests of the people they represent.
Said the Foyle MP: “Over the last number of days, I have appealed for cool heads and calm decision making in relation to the early challenges Brexit has thrown at us.
“It is deeply disappointing that in spite of rising tension that the language used in the debate has continued to raise the temperature. We all have a role to play in responsibly managing this public discourse.
“The bitter animosity that has characterised the public debate is getting us nowhere.
“Political leaders have to set aside the politics of grievance and recrimination and start working together in the substantial common interests of all our communities.
“That is why I have written to the Taoiseach and Prime Minister to propose that they convene an all party dialogue aimed at putting politics to one side and finding solutions to the challenges we face.
“We have already shown that flexibility is possible, whether its steel imports or second hand cars, we can resolve problems by working together.
“Every party has a stark choice.
“They can continue to lay siege to the delicate relationships between parties and people across these islands or we can return to the politics of partnership.
“The SDLP is in solution mode and we’re committed to resolving the problems that people face,” added Mr Eastwood.
