The move was confirmed by Communities Minister Deirdre Hargey in response to an Assembly Question submitted by Mr Durkan.
Said the Foyle MLA: “Following my request to the Communities Minister, I am pleased to confirm that consideration is being given to prioritising those working in Supported People Projects for COVID vaccinations.
“This is an important and necessary step to protect staff and service users, who have been under immense pressures over the last year.
“Not just pressures from the daily toll of the care they provide but the additional challenges presented as a result of increased staff absences within the sector.
“As frontline workers caring for some of the most vulnerable within society, it is only right that this group should be prioritised.
“Providing vaccinations as soon as possible for the sector will ensure staff can continue to play their vital role within our communities.”
