DERRY City and Strabane District Council’s Everybody Active Team are laying down the gauntlet to local families to reach a new level of fitness before Easter with their latest lockdown initiative.
The Easter 3k Challenge, in partnership with Sport NI and the Public Health Agency, will guide families through a three week programme to prepare them to walk, jog or run three kilometres.
The proceeds raised will go towards Aurora Counselling Services, the chosen charity of Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, Councillor Brian Tierney, who launched the initiative this week and challenged local families to give themselves a target to work towards by signing up.
hE SAID: “Our parks and greenways across the City and District have been packed with families getting their daily exercise during the lockdown restrictions and it has been heartening to see so many reaping the health benefits it brings.
.
“On the back of last year’s 1k Challenge, the EBA Team at Council are challenging you to take things to the next level by competing a 3k route this year and their tailored training programme will guide you through each step of the process.
“With the weather improving and the evenings getting longer this is an ideal chance to improve your fitness before we head into the summer and help raise funds for my chosen charity for the year: Aurora Counselling Services.”
Everyone who signs up for the event will receive a beanie hat and certificate to mark the achievement and a training programme to prepare them for their 3k walk/run.
