A BANNER has been unveiled at Free Derry Corner in support of a campaign for the opening of a much needed city detox centre.
The campaign is being led by brave local teenager Tamzin White whose mother, Louise, died earlier four months ago as a result of alochol addiction.
She was just 40 when she died.
Other members of Tamzin’s family have also died from addiction.
To honour them, 18-year-old Tamzin has launched the campaign for the creation of a local detox centre to help those fighting addictions.
Tamzin said she had been overwhelmed by the support she has received.
Last Friday, she had a face-to-face meeting with Health Minister Robin Swann in Derry.
Also present were Foyla MLAs Mark H Durkan and Karen Mullan along with Aontu Councillor Emmet Doyle,
After the meeting Tamzin said: “It was positive overall.
“My opening sentence was that I have three different political parties there along with me and supporting me, and he corrected me and said, ‘Naw Tamzin you have four, meaning him as well, so that was also positive.”
Tamzin said that while the Health Minister “didn’t say yes to a detox centre, he didn’t rule it out either”.
