THE SDLP’s Sinéad McLaughlin and her Waterside Council colleagues have welcomed confirmation that planning approval for a new Waterside Youth Centre has been granted by Derry City and Strabane District Council.
Said the Foyle MLA: “My office met with the Education Authority back when this planning application was lodged to discuss its potential and I am glad to see that Derry City and Strabane District Council’s Planning Department have now approved these plans for a new Youth Centre serving the young people in the Waterside.
“The demolition of the existing facility and rebuild gives an opportunity for the Education Authority to deliver a much improved building and simultaneously invest in the future of young people here.”
Added Councillor Martin Reilly: “I had been in touch with Council officers seeking updates on this application as I know it is of significance to those who will use the new facility along Dungiven Road and those who live adjacent to it.
“Now that panning permission has been granted, I look forward to work commencing soon and hope to see the new Centre open as soon as the work allows.”
Councillor Sean Mooney said: “This new Youth Centre will compliment other positive developments in this part of the Waterside, including much needed investment by the Housing Executive in the Triangle area development.”
