THE Department of Health has reported a further 636 Coronavirus cases in the North of Ireland in the last 24 hours.
That’s a rise of 125 on figures given yesterday for Monday.
And it is the highest number of infections since January this year.
There has been one further death (outside the current reporting period) from the virus with the death toll, mostly in hospitals across the North, which is now at 2,159.
Sadly, the latest death has been reported in the Derry City and Strabane District Council area. He is a man aged over 80.
In the past week, the Department has recorded 3,977 new cases of Coronavirus.
There has been a further 88 positive cases in the Derry City and Strabane District Council area, the same number given on Friday for Thursday.
Over the past seven days there have been a further 580 COVID-19 cases in the Derry and Strabane area.
This means that since the pandemic started in March there have now been 14,834 positive cases within the council boundary – the third highest among all 11 councils in the North.
The rate of infection within the Derry and Strabane Council area has risen to 383.4 cases per 100,000, the highest of any council in the North of Ireland.
The Department has to date recorded a total of 137 coronavirus deaths within the Derry and Strabane council area to date – the third lowest out of all councils here.
Bed occupancy across all hospitals is now at 105 per cent.
There are currently 72 patients in hospital with Coronavirus, a rise of 12 on Friday’s figures.
There are two patients being treated in intensive care with one patient on a ventilator.
Sixteen care homes are now dealing with a COVID-19 outbreak, a rise of seven on figures given last Friday, with a further 661 concluded Coronavirus outbreaks in care homes.
