THE Department of Health has reported a further 1,083 Coronavirus cases in the North of Ireland in the last 24 hours.
That’s a huge rise of 447 on figures given yesterday for Tuesday.
And it is the highest number of infections since January this year.
There has been no further deaths from the virus with the death toll, mostly in hospitals across the North, now at 2,159.
In the past week, the Department has recorded 4,437 new cases of Coronavirus.
There has been a further 89 positive cases in the Derry City and Strabane District Council area, a rise of one on figures given yesterday for Tuesday.
Over the past seven days there have been a further 563 COVID-19 cases in the Derry and Strabane area.
This means that since the pandemic started in March there have now been 14,923 positive cases within the council boundary – the third highest among all 11 councils in the North.
The rate of infection within the Derry and Strabane Council area has fallen slightly to 372.1 cases per 100,000, the highest of any council in the North of Ireland.
The Department has to date recorded a total of 137 coronavirus deaths within the Derry and Strabane council area to date – the third lowest out of all councils here.
Bed occupancy across all hospitals is now at 104 per cent.
There are currently 80 patients in hospital with Coronavirus, a rise of eight on yesterday’s figures.
There are two patients being treated in intensive care with one patient on a ventilator.
Nineteen care homes are now dealing with a COVID-19 outbreak, a rise of three on figures given yesterday for Tuesday, with a further 661 concluded Coronavirus outbreaks in care homes.
