THE Department of Health has announced a further 1,973 Coronavirus cases in the North of Ireland in the last 24 hours.
That’s a huge rise of 835 cases on figures given yesterday for Monday.
There has been two further deaths from the virus with the death toll, mostly in hospitals across the North, now at 2,166.
In the past week, the Department has recorded 9,088 new cases of Coronavirus.
There has been a further 205 positive cases in the Derry City and Strabane District Council area, a rise of 132 on figures given yesterday for Monday.
Over the past seven days there have been a further 819 COVID-19 cases in the Derry and Strabane area.
This means that since the pandemic started in March there have now been 15,672 positive cases within the council boundary – the third highest among all 11 councils in the North.
The rate of infection within the Derry and Strabane Council area has risen sharply to 541.4 cases per 100,000, the second highest of the 11 council districts in the North of Ireland with Belfast first with 800.5 cases per 100,000.
The Department has to date recorded a total of 138 coronavirus deaths within the Derry and Strabane council area to date – the third lowest out of all councils here.
Bed occupancy across all hospitals is now at 104 per cent.
There are currently 134 patients in hospital with Coronavirus.
There are eight patients being treated in intensive care with three patients on a ventilator.
Forty care homes are still dealing with a COVID-19 outbreak with a further 662 concluded Coronavirus outbreaks in care homes.
