By Sunday evening approximately 220,000 vaccinations had been administered throughout the Derry, Omagh and Enniskillen area, with over 37,000 given in Omagh and over 40,000 at the Lakeland Forum.
All regional vaccination centres across the North of Ireland stopped giving first dose Covid19 jabs on Saturday, July 31, 2021, after which point the Health Trust will continue to provide mobile clinics through August.
Winding down the Mass Vaccination Centres will allow staff to return to other parts of the health service.
Second doses will continue to be administered at vaccination centres via walk in appointment until September.
Anyone who has had a first jab can call in to a centre for their follow up jab after a period of six weeks.
Mayor Warke today paid tribute to all the staff at the Western Trust who manned the vaccination centres locally.
“I want to mark this milestone by thanking all those who have given their time to delivering this essential programme.
“This has been an enormous task for the Health Service and has demanded an unprecedented effort from staff who stepped up to deliver this phenomenal number of vaccines within our local community.
“I know I speak on behalf of everyone when I extend my sincerest thanks to all those who have been part of the vaccination scheme.
“They have brought protection and peace of mind to thousands of local people and enabled us to begin the cautious journey towards some form of normal life once again.
“Thank you to all who have followed the advice and attended for their vaccine.
“Please ensure that if you have had a first jab that you return for the second to achieve the full effect of the vaccine.
“I want to take this opportunity once again to urge anyone who has not yet received the vaccine to please consider the wider impact of that decision and book a vaccination slot before September.
“We still have some way to go before we emerge from this crisis, and we must all work together to make sure that all lives are protected and we can safely enjoy the things we have missed so much over lockdown.”
Speaking on behalf of the Western Trust, Dr Maura O’Neill, Assistant Director Performance & Service Improvement, thanked local partners saying:
“The Trust wishes to acknowledge the support from our Multi Agency partners in the planning and delivery of the vaccine programme and also the collaborative efforts in our pop up mobile clinics across the Council area.”
Council’s Director of Health and Community, Karen McFarland, said: “I am delighted that we have been able to facilitate the delivery of the vaccine programme, and that so much has been achieved to date.
“We continue to support our partners in the Trust in the next phase of the programme and prepare for the return to normal services once completed.
“I want to thank all Council staff who have assisted in facilitating the delivery of the vaccine programme at our sites for playing their part in this vital campaign.”
