SIXTH place welcome fifth place on this evening, Friday, August 6, as Derry City take on Drogheda United at the Ryan McBride Brandywell Stadium (kick off 7.45 pm).
Derry City come into the game on the back of a 2-0 victory at Bishopgate over Longford Town thanks to goals from Danny Lafferty and Junior Ogedi-Uzokwe.
Drogheda meanwhile suffered a narrow 2-1 defeat to Waterford last time out and they come into the game with just one win from their last seven league matches.
Derry came out on top in the FAI Cup tie between these two sides a fortnight ago.
Danny Lafferty converted a injury-time penalty to force extra-time after Dinny Corcoran had given Drogheda a first-half lead. The Candystripes won out 4-2 on penalties with goalkeeper Nathan Gartside saving twice.
Team news
Derry City: Marc Walsh is the only absentee with Ciaron Harkin returning from suspension.
Drogheda United: Striker Brandon Bermingham has left the club to begin a four-year scholarship at William Carey University in Mississippi.
City manager Ruaidhrí Higgins said: “I was at their (Drogheda) game last week and they didn’t deserve to lose so they will come up looking to put points on the board.”
“Drogheda have had a great season and our recent fixtures, both at their ground, have been tight affairs and I expect no different at the Brandywell.”
Drogheda have picked up just one point from the last nine on offer losing consecutive games against St. Pats and Waterford with their last win in Derry coming back in 2015.
