THE Department of Health has announced a further 1,031 Coronavirus cases in the North of Ireland in the last 24 hours.
That’s a fall of 188 cases on figures given yesterday for Saturday.
There has been eight further deaths from the virus in the past 24 hours with the death toll, mostly in hospitals across the North, now at 2,228.
Sadly, two of these latest deaths were recorded in the Derry City and Strabane District Council area.
In the past week, the Department has recorded 8,974 new cases of Coronavirus.
There has been a further 113 positive cases in the Derry City and Strabane District Council area, a fall of 59 on figures given on Friday for Thursday.
Over the past seven days there have been a further 879 COVID-19 cases in the Derry and Strabane area.
This means that since the pandemic started in March there have now been 17,861 positive cases within the council boundary – the third highest among all 11 councils in the North.
The rate of infection within the Derry and Strabane Council area has risen to 581 cases per 100,000, the second highest of the 11 council districts in the North of Ireland.
The Department has now recorded a total of 145 Coronavirus deaths within the Derry and Strabane council area to date – the third lowest out of all councils here.
Bed occupancy across all hospitals is now at 101 per cent.
There are currently 245 patients in hospitals across the North with Coronavirus.
There are 41 patients being treated in intensive care with 34 patients on ventilators.
The Western Trust reports that 11.64 per cent of beds in Altnagelvin Hospital are treating patients with Coronavirus.
One hundred and twelve care homes are now dealing with a COVID-19 outbreak with a further 677 concluded Coronavirus outbreaks in care homes.
Twelve care homes in the Western Trust area are currently dealing with a Coronavirus outbreak.
