The move has been prompted by public outcry after proposals to close the service were revealed last month.
Said the Foyle MLA: “The SDLP is glad to have played our part in maintaining this vital service for children in Foyle.
“I have no doubt this news will come as a relief for so many vulnerable children and their families who avail of this service.
“I’m cognisant that it appears the service will still lose three members of staff however I have been assured efforts are being made to secure these jobs through redeployment.
“The service provided by this programme is key to helping some of our most vulnerable young people deal with their experience of abuse and put them on the pathway to recovery.
“Given the rise in child sex abuse during the coronavirus pandemic, this service will play a significant role in the months ahead.
“Sadly, there will always be young people in this area who need to access local support where they can feel heard and respected.
“At least now that option of local support has been secured,” added Mr Durkan.
