THE Department of Health has announceed a further 1,610 Coronavirus cases in the North of Ireland in the last 24 hours.
That’s a rise of 143 cases on figures given yesterday for Tuesday.
There has been three further deaths (one outside the current reporting period) from the virus in the past 24 hours with the death toll, mostly in hospitals across the North, now at 2,233.
Sadly, one of these latest deaths was recorded in the Derry City and Strabane District Council area.
In the past week, the Department has recorded 9,446 new cases of Coronavirus.
There has been a further 150 positive cases in the Derry City and Strabane District Council area, a rise of seven on figures given yesterday for Tuesday.
Over the past seven days there have been a further 964 COVID-19 cases in the Derry and Strabane area.
This means that since the pandemic started in March there have now been 18,229 positive cases within the council boundary – the third highest among all 11 councils in the North.
The rate of infection within the Derry and Strabane Council area has risen to 637.2 cases per 100,000, the second highest of the 11 council districts in the North of Ireland.
The Department has now recorded a total of 147 Coronavirus deaths within the Derry and Strabane council area to date – the third lowest out of all councils here.
Bed occupancy across all hospitals is now at 103 per cent.
There are currently 341 patients in hospitals across the North with Coronavirus.
There are 42 patients being treated in intensive care with 32 patients on ventilators.
The Western Trust reports that 13.38 per cent of beds in Altnagelvin Hospital are treating a total of 37 patients with Coronavirus.
Four of those patients are currently being treated in Altnagelvin’s ICU for COVID-19 – that’s just under half of its ICU beds treating patients with the deadly virus.
A total of 118 care homes are now dealing with a Coronavirus outbreak with a further 687 concluded Coronavirus outbreaks in care homes.
Sixteen care homes in the Western Trust area are now dealing with a Coronavirus outbreak.
