THE Department of Health has reported a further 1,389 Coronavirus cases in the North of Ireland in the last 24 hours.
That’s a fall of 221 cases on figures given yesterday for Wednesday.
There has been four further deaths (one outside the current reporting period) from the virus in the past 24 hours with the death toll, mostly in hospitals across the North, now at 2,240.
Sadly, one of these latest deaths was recorded in the Derry City and Strabane District Council area.
In the past week, the Department has recorded 9,405 new cases of Coronavirus.
There has been a further 153 positive cases in the Derry City and Strabane District Council area, a rise of three on figures given yesterday for Wednesday.
Over the past seven days there have been a further 962 COVID-19 cases in the Derry and Strabane area.
This means that since the pandemic started in March there have now been 18,452 positive cases within the council boundary – the third highest among all 11 councils in the North.
The rate of infection within the Derry and Strabane Council area has fallen slightly to 635.9 cases per 100,000, the second highest of the 11 council districts in the North of Ireland.
The Department has now recorded a total of 148 Coronavirus deaths within the Derry and Strabane council area to date – the third lowest out of all councils here.
Bed occupancy across all hospitals is now at 102 per cent.
There are currently 359 patients in hospitals across the North with Coronavirus.
There are 44 patients being treated in intensive care with 32 patients on ventilators.
The Western Trust reports that 11.67 per cent of beds in Altnagelvin Hospital are treating a total of 39 patients with Coronavirus.
Five of those patients are currently being treated in Altnagelvin’s ICU for COVID-19 – that’s half of its ICU beds treating patients with the deadly virus.
A total of 122 care homes are now dealing with a Coronavirus outbreak with a further 689 concluded Coronavirus outbreaks in care homes.
Sixteen out of 70 residential care homes in the Western Trust area are now dealing with a Coronavirus outbreak.
