Michael Dobbins, of Greenhaw Road, Derry, faces a total of ten charges in relation to sex offences allegedly committed on dates between January 1, 2013 and February 23, 2015 on a female.
The 53-year-old, who is on bail, wasn’t present at Derry Crown Court today when his trial was formally listed for February 7, 2022.
He is accused of six counts of rape, one of sexual assault, two offences of sexual assault by penetration and one count of “sexual assault by an adult with a person with a mental health disorder and that because of it or for a reason related to it she was likely to be unable to refuse”.
His defence team are to mount a legal challenge to the case going to trial because of a delay in bringing the proceedings to court.
The case will be mentioned again in October.
In 2009, Dr Dobbins won the Headteacher of the Year in a Secondary School at the NI Teaching Awards held in Belfast.
Dr Dobbins became principal of Ardnashee School and College when Belmont House and Foyle View Schools merged in 2014.
