THE Department of Health has announced a further 1,875 Coronavirus cases in the North of Ireland in the last 24 hours.
That’s a rise of 325 cases on figures given yesterday for Wednesday.
There has been five further deaths from the virus in the past 24 hours with the death toll, mostly in hospitals across the North, now at 2,337.
None of these latest deaths was recorded in the Derry City and Strabane District Council area.
In the past week, the Department has recorded 11,664 new cases of Coronavirus.
There has been a further 246 positive cases in the Derry City and Strabane District Council area, a rise of 57 on figures given yesterday for Wednesday.
Over the past seven days there have been a further 1,455 COVID-19 cases in the Derry and Strabane area.
This means that since the pandemic started in March there have now been 21,182 positive cases within the council boundary – the third highest among all 11 councils in the North.
The rate of infection within the Derry and Strabane Council area has risen to 961.8 cases per 100,000, still the second highest of all 11 council districts in the North of Ireland.
The Department has now recorded a total of 153 Coronavirus deaths within the Derry and Strabane council area to date – the third lowest out of all councils here.
Bed occupancy across all hospitals is now at 104 per cent.
There are currently 383 patients in hospitals across the North with Coronavirus.
There are 45 patients being treated in intensive care with 27 patients on ventilators.
The Western Trust reports that 15 per cent of beds in Altnagelvin Hospital are COVID-19 occupied with staff treating 40 patients with Coronavirus.
Six of those patients are currently being treated in Altnagelvin’s ICU for COVID-19 – that’s two thirds of its ICU beds treating patients with the deadly virus.
The hospital is currently running at 10 per cent above capacity.
A total of 129 care homes are now dealing with a Coronavirus outbreak with a further 731 concluded Coronavirus outbreaks in care homes.
A total of 22 out of 70 residential care homes in the Western Trust area are now dealing with a Coronavirus outbreak.
