THE SDLP’S sinéad McLaughlin is appealing to Derry parents and childcare providers to complete the latest NI Childcare Survey from Employers for Childcare so that local experiences are well represented.
Last year’s research was used to inform vital funding for the childcare sector to support its re-opening and help mitigate the impacts of Covid-19.
The Foyle MLA, who is also Vice Chair of the All Party Group on Early Education and Childcare, said: “Childcare has been a critical issue during Covid-19 and highlighted just how vital the sector is to our economy as we seek to rebuild from the pandemic.
“The last Childcare Survey found that almost three quarters of parents in Derry said there is insufficient childcare in their area, which has a major impact on their ability to work – and this was before the impact of Covid-19.
“I would encourage as many parents and childcare providers as possible to set aside 10 minutes to share their views and experiences.
“This survey is particularly important as the Executive has committed to a new Childcare Strategy which needs to deliver longer-term investment in the sector to support our economic recovery.”
Aoife Hamilton, Head of Charity Services with Employers For Childcare, added: “Have your childcare needs changed as a result of Covid-19? Does your employer offer more flexible ways of working that allow you to better balance work with childcare?
“Are you a provider who has experienced challenges due to the impact of Covid-19 over the last year?
“These are just some of the topics we want to hear your views on.”
All parents and childcare providers who complete the survey, will be entered into a draw to win one of two £100 shopping vouchers.
The survey can be accessed on the Employers For Childcare website at: www.employersforchildcare.org
It will be available until Friday, September 24, 2021.
