THE Department of Health has reported a further 1,764 new Coronavirus cases in the North of Ireland in the past 24 hours.
That’s a rise of 532 on figures given yesterday for Saturday.
There have been a further nine deaths, bringing the Department of Health’s total number of deaths from the virus (mostly in hospital settings) to 2,417.
Sadly, one of these latest deaths was recorded in the Derry City and Strabane District Council area.
In the past week, the Department has recorded 10,024 new cases of Coronavirus.
There has been a further 214 positive cases in the Derry City and Strabane District Council area, a rise of 104 on figures given on Friday for Thursday.
Over the past seven days there have been a further 1,093 COVID-19 cases in the Derry and Strabane area.
This means that since the pandemic started in March there have now been 22,671 positive cases within the council boundary – the third highest among all 11 councils in the North.
The rate of infection within the Derry and Strabane Council area has risen to 772.5 cases per 100,000, now the highest of all 11 council districts in the North of Ireland.
The Department has recorded a total of 158 Coronavirus deaths within the Derry and Strabane council area to date – the third lowest out of all councils here.
Bed occupancy across all hospitals is now at 104 per cent.
There are currently 407 patients in hospitals across the North with Coronavirus.
There are 46 patients being treated in intensive care with 36 patients on ventilators.
The Western Trust reports that 15.74 per cent of beds in Altnagelvin Hospital are COVID-19 occupied with staff treating 60 patients with Coronavirus.
Seven of those patients are currently being treated in Altnagelvin’s ICU for COVID-19 – that’s over 63 per cent of its ICU beds treating patients with the deadly virus.
The hospital is currently running at 4.66 per cent above capacity.
A total of 134 care homes are now dealing with a Coronavirus outbreak with a further 754 concluded Coronavirus outbreaks in care homes.
A total of 25 out of 70 residential care homes in the Western Trust area are now dealing with a Coronavirus outbreak.
