THE Department of Health has announced a further 1,210 new Coronavirus cases in the North of Ireland in the past 24 hours.
That’s a fall of 538 on figures given yesterday for Monday.
There have been a further six deaths (two outside the current reporting period), bringing the Department of Health’s total number of deaths from the virus (mostly in hospital settings) to 2,430.
Sadly, one of these latest deaths was recorded in the Derry City and Strabane District Council area.
In the past week, the Department has recorded 9,892 new cases of Coronavirus.
There has been a further 152 positive cases in the Derry City and Strabane District Council area, a rise of 14 on figures given on yesterday for Monday.
Over the past seven days there have been a further 1,070 COVID-19 cases in the Derry and Strabane area.
This means that since the pandemic started in March there have now been 22,961 positive cases within the council boundary – the third highest among all 11 councils in the North.
The rate of infection within the Derry and Strabane Council area has fallen to 707.3 cases per 100,000, now the highest of all 11 council districts in the North of Ireland.
The Department has now recorded a total of 159 Coronavirus deaths within the Derry and Strabane council area to date – the third lowest out of all councils here.
Bed occupancy across all hospitals is now up to 108 per cent.
There are currently 454 patients in hospitals across the North with Coronavirus.
There are 44 patients being treated in intensive care with 33 patients on ventilators.
The Western Trust reports that 18.24 per cent of beds in Altnagelvin Hospital are COVID-19 occupied with staff treating 59 patients with Coronavirus.
Seven of those patients are currently being treated in Altnagelvin’s ICU for COVID-19 – that’s 70 per cent of its ICU beds treating patients with the deadly virus.
The hospital is currently running at 5.29 per cent above capacity.
A total of 126 care homes are now dealing with a Coronavirus outbreak with a further 765 concluded Coronavirus outbreaks in care homes.
A total of 25 out of 70 residential care homes in the Western Trust area are now dealing with a Coronavirus outbreak.
