POLICE are at the scene of a security alert in Co Derry.
It centres on the the Ard na Smoll area of Dungiven following the discovery of a suspicious object.
A number of people have been evacuated from their homes as a precaution.
SDLP East Derry MLA Cara Hunter urged those affected to follow the advice of PSNI officers at the scene.
“Residents in the Ard na Smoll area of Dungiven have been forced from their homes this morning following the discovery of a suspicious object,” she said.
“This kind of chaos is the last thing families need on a Sunday morning.
“I would urge everyone to follow the advice of PSNI officers at the scene until they make the area safe and residents can return to their homes.”
There are no further details at present.
