A MAN is to face Derry Magistrates’ Court today, Friday, September 17, over the theft of charity boxes from a shop in the city.
Police Derry City and Strabane say: “Police in the City were contacted shortly before midnight on Wednesday 15th of September by a member of the public, in regards to a male smashing the window of a shop and entering the premises on Sackville Street.
“Officers on patrol attended the scene and apprehended the suspect carrying four charity boxes from the premises.
Following enquiries, this male has been charged to appear in court this morning.
“These charity boxes are there to assist with supporting some of our most vulnerable members of society, and support services provided to them.
“We are thankful of the quick call from the member of the public and reactions of officers to apprehend the suspect and bring him before the courts.”
