THE Department of Health has reported a further 1,078 new Coronavirus cases in the North of Ireland in the past 24 hours.
That’s a rise of 175 new cases on figures given yesterday for Sunday.
There have been a further four deaths (one outside the current reporting period), bringing the Department of Health’s total number of deaths from the virus (mostly in hospital settings) to 2,552.
None of these latest deaths in the last 24 hours were recorded in the Derry City and Strabane District Council area.
In the past week, the Department has recorded 7,540 new cases of Coronavirus.
There has been a further 71 positive cases in the Derry City and Strabane District Council area, a fall of six on numbers given yesterday for Sunday.
Over the past seven days there have been a further 566 COVID-19 cases in the Derry and Strabane area.
This means that since the pandemic started in March there have now been 24,891 positive cases within the council boundary.
The rate of infection within the Derry and Strabane Council area has fallen again to 374.1 cases per 100,000, now the third lowest of all 11 council districts in the North of Ireland.
The Department has now recorded a total of 167 Coronavirus deaths within the Derry and Strabane council area to date – the third lowest out of all councils here.
Bed occupancy across all hospitals is now up to 104 per cent.
There are currently 362 patients in hospitals across the North with Coronavirus.
There are 27 patients being treated in intensive care with 24 patients on ventilators.
The Western Trust reports that 10.06 per cent of beds in Altnagelvin Hospital are COVID-19 occupied with staff treating 36 patients with Coronavirus.
One of these patients is currently being treated in Altnagelvin’s ICU for COVID-19 – that’s 8.33 per cent of its ICU beds treating patients with the deadly virus.
The hospital is currently running at just less than 1 per cent under capacity with beds.
A total of 80 care homes are now dealing with a Coronavirus outbreak with a further 846 concluded Coronavirus outbreaks in care homes.
A total of 21 out of 69 residential care homes in the Western Trust area are still dealing with a Coronavirus outbreak.
