THE Department of Health has reported a further 1,039 new Coronavirus cases in the North of Ireland in the past 24 hours.
That’s a fall of 124 new cases on figures given yesterday for Wednesday.
There have been a further eight deaths (two outside the current reporting period), bringing the Department of Health’s total number of deaths from the virus (mostly in hospital settings) to 2,564.
None of these latest deaths in the last 24 hours was recorded in the Derry City and Strabane District Council area.
In the past week, the Department has recorded 7,622 new cases of Coronavirus.
There has been a further 91 positive cases in the Derry City and Strabane District Council area, a rise of three on numbers given yesterday for Wednesday.
Over the past seven days there have been a further 590 COVID-19 cases in the Derry and Strabane area.
This means that since the pandemic started in March there have now been 25,172 positive cases within the council boundary.
The rate of infection within the Derry and Strabane Council area has risen slighlty to 390. cases per 100,000, now the third lowest of all 11 council districts in the North of Ireland.
The Department has now recorded a total of 168 Coronavirus deaths within the Derry and Strabane council area to date – the third lowest out of all councils here.
Bed occupancy across all hospitals is now at 104 per cent.
There are currently 342 patients in hospitals across the North with Coronavirus.
There are 33 patients being treated in intensive care with 26 patients on ventilators.
The Western Trust reports that 11.14 per cent of beds in Altnagelvin Hospital are COVID-19 occupied with staff treating 37 patients with Coronavirus.
Two of these patients are currently being treated in Altnagelvin’s ICU for COVID-19 – that’s 16.67 per cent of its ICU beds treating patients with the deadly virus.
The hospital is currently running at 1.76 per cent over capacity with beds.
A total of 69 care homes are now dealing with a Coronavirus outbreak with a further 860 concluded Coronavirus outbreaks in care homes.
A total of 13 out of 69 residential care homes in the Western Trust area are still dealing with a Coronavirus outbreak.
