Lyra McKee murder: Man charged with rioting in Derry

Murdered journalist Lyra McKee shot dead in Derry in April last year by the New IRA

DETECTIVES from the PSNI’s Major Investigation Team, investigating the murder of 29 year old journalist Lyra McKee, who was shot dead by terrorists in Derry on Thursday, April 18, 2019, have charged a 53-year-old man with riot, assault, and throwing petrol bombs.

He is expected to appear before Derry Magistrates’ Court tomorrow, Monday, October 4, for a first remand hearing.

As is usual procedure, all charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.

A 44-year-old man also arrested on Friday, October 1, was released pending a report to the Public Prosecution Service.

Ms McKee was died following a single gunshot to the head while observing rioting in Creggan’s Fanad Drive.

The New IRA later claimed responsibility for her murder.

Three men have already been charged with her murder.

A number of other men have been charged with rioting on the same night.
