THE Department of Health has reported a further 1,276 new Coronavirus cases in the North of Ireland in the past 24 hours.
That’s a fall of 29 new cases on figures given yesterday for Wednesday.
There have been a further two deaths (none outside the current reporting period), bringing the Department of Health’s total number of deaths from the virus (mostly in hospital settings) to 2,581.
Sadly, one of these latest deaths in the last 24 hours was recorded in the Derry City and Strabane District Council area.
In the past week, the Department has recorded 8,295 new cases of Coronavirus.
There has been a further 95 positive cases in the Derry City and Strabane District Council area, a rise of ten on numbers given yesterday for Wednesday.
Over the past seven days there have been a further 582 COVID-19 cases in the Derry and Strabane area.
This means that since the pandemic started in March there have now been 25,726 positive cases within the council boundary.
The rate of infection within the Derry and Strabane Council area has risen slighlty to 384.7 cases per 100,000 – the lowest rate of all 11 councils in the North.
The Department has now recorded a total of 170 Coronavirus deaths within the Derry and Strabane council area to date – the third lowest out of all councils here.
Bed occupancy across all hospitals is now down to 102 per cent.
There are currently 360 patients in hospitals across the North with Coronavirus.
There are 35 patients being treated in intensive care with 28 patients on ventilators.
The Western Trust reports that 11.21 per cent of beds in Altnagelvin Hospital are COVID-19 occupied with staff treating 37 patients with Coronavirus.
Two of these patients is currently being treated in Altnagelvin’s ICU for COVID-19.
The hospital is currently running at 3.16 per cent over capacity with beds.
A total of 69 care homes are now dealing with a Coronavirus outbreak with a further 871 concluded Coronavirus outbreaks in care homes.
A total of ten out of 69 residential care homes in the Western Trust area are still dealing with a Coronavirus outbreak.
