Police are investigating the incident of arson with intent to endanger life during the early hours of 3rd August 3, 2021.
At 3.49am, two men can be seen on CCTV leaving the foyer area of a set of flats of Strand Road, where two bins had been set on fire.
A Police Derry City and Strabane spokesperson said: “The lobby quickly becomes filled with smoke.
“One of the residents heard the voices in the lobby area and was then alerted by the fire alarm.
“A resident’s family member arrived quickly on the scene, removed the bins, allowing other residents and their pets to escape.
“One suspect has been arrested and charged in relation to this incident, the other has not yet been identified.”
