THE Department of Health has announced a further 1,091 new Coronavirus cases in the North of Ireland in the past 24 hours.
That’s a rise of 125 new cases on figures given yesterday for Saturday.
There has three more deaths (none outside the current reporting period), bringing the Department of Health’s total number of deaths from the virus (mostly in hospital settings) to 2,621.
None of these latest deaths was recorded in the Derry City and Strabane District Council area.
In the past week, the Department has recorded 8,946 new cases of Coronavirus.
There has been a further 47 positive cases in the Derry City and Strabane District Council area, a fall of 42 on numbers given on Friday for Thursday.
Over the past seven days there have been a further 516 COVID-19 cases in the Derry and Strabane area.
This means that since the pandemic started in March there have now been 26,455 positive cases within the council boundary.
The rate of infection within the Derry and Strabane Council area has fallen to 344.1 cases per 100,000 – still the lowest rate of all 11 councils in the North.
The Department has recorded a total of 171 Coronavirus deaths within the Derry and Strabane council area to date – the third lowest out of all councils here.
Bed occupancy across all hospitals is now at 102 per cent.
There are currently 347 patients in hospitals across the North with Coronavirus.
There are 34 patients being treated in intensive care with 24 patients on ventilators.
The Western Trust reports that 6.61 per cent of beds in Altnagelvin Hospital are COVID-19 occupied with staff treating 35 patients with Coronavirus.
Two of these patients are currently being treated in Altnagelvin’s ICU for COVID-19.
The hospital is currently running at 5.75 per cent over capacity with beds.
A total of 67 care homes are now dealing with a Coronavirus outbreak with a further 894 concluded Coronavirus outbreaks in care homes.
A total of ten out of 69 residential care homes in the Western Trust area are still dealing with a Coronavirus outbreak.
To date, a total of 2,575,125 vaccines have been administered in the North.
