THE Department of Health has reported a further 1,051 new Coronavirus cases in the North of Ireland in the past 24 hours.
That’s a fall of 372 new cases on figures given yesterday for Tuesday.
There has been four more deaths (none outside the current reporting period), bringing the Department of Health’s total number of deaths from the virus (mostly in hospital settings) to 2,639.
None of these latest deaths was recorded in the Derry City and Strabane District Council area.
In the past week, the Department has recorded 8,582 new cases of Coronavirus.
There has been a further 82 positive cases in the Derry City and Strabane District Council area, a fall of three on numbers given yesterday for Tuesday.
Over the past seven days there have been a further 517 COVID-19 cases in the Derry and Strabane area.
This means that since the pandemic started in March there have now been 26,711 positive cases within the council boundary.
The rate of infection within the Derry and Strabane Council area remains at 341.7 cases per 100,000 – now the second lowest rate of all 11 councils in the North.
The Department has recorded a total of 171 Coronavirus deaths within the Derry and Strabane council area to date – the third lowest out of all councils here.
Bed occupancy across all hospitals is now up to 107 per cent.
There are currently 357 patients in hospitals across the North with Coronavirus.
There are 35 patients being treated in intensive care with 25 patients on ventilators.
The Western Trust reports that 8.40 per cent of beds in Altnagelvin Hospital are COVID-19 occupied with staff treating 31 patients with Coronavirus.
Four of these patients are currently being treated in Altnagelvin’s ICU for COVID-19.
The hospital is currently running at 6.16 per cent over capacity with beds.
A total of 55 care homes are now dealing with a Coronavirus outbreak with a further 908 concluded Coronavirus outbreaks in care homes.
A total of ten out of 69 residential care homes in the Western Trust area are still dealing with a Coronavirus outbreak.
To date, a total of 2,599,370 vaccines have been administered in the North.
