THE Department of Health has announced a further 2,272 new cases in the North of Ireland in the past 24 hours.
That’s a rise of 280 on figures given yesterday for Tuesday.
There have been two further Covid-19-related deaths (none outside the current reporting period), with the total to date since the start of the pandemic (mostly in hospitals) now at 2,881.
None of these latest deaths over was recorded in the Derry City and Strabane District Council area over the weekend.
In the past week, the Department has recorded 12,122 new cases of Coronavirus.
There has been a further 125 positive cases in the Derry City and Strabane District Council area, a rise of one on numbers given yesterday for Tuesday.
Over the past seven days there have been a further 715 COVID-19 cases in the Derry and Strabane area.
This means that since the pandemic started in March there have now been 30,132 positive cases within the council boundary.
The rate of infection within the Derry and Strabane Council area has risen slightly to 472.6 cases per 100,000 – still the lowest rate of all 11 councils in the North.
The Department has to date recorded a total of 185 Coronavirus deaths within the Derry and Strabane council area to date – the lowest out of all councils here.
Bed occupancy across all hospitals is now up to 104 per cent.
There are currently 324 patients in hospitals across the North with Coronavirus.
There are 30 patients being treated in intensive care with 28 patients on ventilators.
The Western Trust reports that 7.97 per cent of beds in Altnagelvin Hospital are COVID-19 occupied with staff treating 25 patients with Coronavirus.
Four of these patients are currently being treated in Altnagelvin’s ICU for COVID-19.
The hospital is currently running at 0.27 per cent under capacity for beds.
A total of 34 care homes are now dealing with a Coronavirus outbreak with a further 995 concluded Coronavirus outbreaks in care homes.
Ten out of 68 residential care homes in the Western Trust area are still dealing with a Coronavirus outbreak.
To date, a total of 3,068,005 Coronavirus vaccines have been administered in the North.
