STORM Barra left its mark in Derry today when its gusting winds brought down fallen scaffolding in the city this morning.
The scaffolding at a three storey building came down at the junction of Academy Road with Rosemount Avenue in Derry.
Fortunately, no one was injured but some damage was cause to one car as a result of the structure crashing down in heavy winds.
Police and fire crews attended the scene and diversions were in a place for a period as the collapsed structure was removed.
The road later reopened to traffic.
There have also been reports of flooding in and around the city as police ask motorists to “be careful” with multiple reports of increased surface water.
Recycling centres across Strabane have also been closed as the council closes them in the interest of health and safety because of “flying debris”.
A spokesperson for the council said: “The decision has been taken to close the recycling sites in the interests of the health and safety of both staff and the public.
“This is due to the risk of flying debris during Storm Barra. They will reopen when it is deemed safe to do so.”
Storm Barra has brought strong winds, heavy rain and snow to the North of Ireland.
On the north coast windspeeds of 71mph were recorded at Magilligan in Co Derry.
A yellow weather warning remains in place until 9 am on Wednesday, December 8.
