Commenting on the news, local Sinn Féin Councillor Conor Heaney said: “I have been working with local residents and the Glen Development Initiative for a number of months to get to this stage of the process.
“The granting of permission to install the gates will now allow me to work with the relevant agencies to secure funding for their design and purchase.
“The installation of these gates will help to improve public safety generally and help to address specific anti-community behaviour and public health issues including the illegal dumping of rubbish in these areas.
“I will keep residents updated on the timescale for the installation of the gates in the coming months”
