AN 18-year-old man was taken to hospital after being stabbed in a “shocking” attack in Co Derry.
The stabbing happened in the Mullagh Place area of Limavady on Thursday around 6.25 am.
Confirming the incident, a PSNI spokesperson said the victim was treated at the scene for injuries before being taken to Altnagelvin Hospital for treatent.
“Enquiries to establish the circumstances of this incident are ongoing,” the spokesperson said.
“We are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed anything or has any information which could assist to contact detectives on teh 101 number.”
East Derry SDLP MLA Cara Hunter urged anyone with information to contact police.
“There can be no place for weapons on our streets, knives or otherwise. We are lucky we are not dealing with a more significant incident.
“Limavady is a quiet and welcoming town and local people are shocked to learn that this has taken place.
A spokesperson for the Ambulance Service said: “Following assessment and initial treatment at the scene, one patient was taken by ambulance to Altnagelvin Hospital.”
