SINN Fein’s Ciara Ferguson has welcomed a recent meeting with the management of North West regional College (NWRC) to discuss their course development and industry engagement plans for the coming few years.
The Foyle MLA said it was key that this engagement included the enhancement of NWRC’s partnership with the community training sector:
“Myself, Padraig Delargy MLA and Councillor John McGowan had an informative discussion with the NWRC on the development of further apprenticeship programmes, more vocational training opportunities and the development of academies that would create graduates ideally suited for employment in emerging sectors such as advanced manufacturing.
“The ongoing collaboration between the college and the Letterkenny Institute of Technology with the aim of creating a cross-border educational corridor that will benefit students from both Derry and Donegal was also welcomed.
“NWRC collaboration with the Community Training Sector is also key to ensuring that residents of working class areas of the city are given an opportunity to transition from community training courses to further studies in subjects that will maximise their chances of securing employment in the roles that will be created by the £250 million pounds of City Deal and Inclusive Future funding.”
