POLICE have evacuated Foyleside Shopping Centre in Derry this afternoon, Tuesday, February 1, following a report has been left in the buildingd.
A PSNI spokesperson said: “Motorists and pedestrians are advised to avoid the area.
“There are no further details at this stage.”
In a statement, Foyleside Shopping Centre say: “Following advice from the PSNI, Foyleside Shopping Centre is currently being evacuated.
“It is imperative that no member of the public attempts to access the centre at this time and we ask that you stay away from the area.
“Further updates will be provided as soon as they are available.”
DUP Foyle MLA Gary Middleton tweeted: “I’ve received an update from the PSNI regarding an ongoing security alert at Foyleside Shopping Centre.
“The centre is currently being evacuated.
“No further information at this stage.”
Sinn Fein Foyle MLA Padraig Delargy tweeted: “The security alert at Foyleside Shopping Centre is deeply concerning.
“It has caused huge disruption to local businesses and people’s livelihoods as they are evacuated from their work.
“I have spoken to the Police and they have advised people to avoid the area for now.”
